Wood Street 1927

The corner of Wood Street and St.Andrew's Road South in 1927.

1927
Handsome shops have replaced houses on the North Side.
Since the Land Company revoked the covenants prohibiting shops, Mr. William Crawshaw transformed two dwellings into four shops (Dodd's corner) ; other shops were built by Mr. S. Galloway on the only vacant site near South Drive; and shops were evolved from residences between Messrs. Dixon and Son's and the old Post Office (1901-24, and until recently the Whisky Chaser).
Three tastefully-designed and imposing shops, known as Tudor Buildings, were constructed out of a pair of villas, by Mr. John Pearson. Thus the old order changeth, giving place to the new demand of the new times.
