Handsome shops have replaced houses on the North Side.
Since the Land Company revoked the covenants prohibiting shops,
Mr. William Crawshaw transformed two dwellings into four shops
(Dodd's corner) ; other shops were built by Mr. S. Galloway on
the only vacant site near South Drive; and shops were evolved
from residences between Messrs. Dixon and Son's and the old Post
Office (1901-24, and until recently the
Whisky Chaser).
Three tastefully-designed and imposing shops, known as Tudor
Buildings, were constructed out of a pair of villas, by Mr. John
Pearson. Thus the old order changeth, giving place to the new
demand of the new times. |
