BLACKPOOL GOLF CLUB
1894-1939
Blackpool Golf Club was created in February, 1894 and its first
nine-hole course was in South Shore, Blackpool. Its boundaries were
Watson Road, Harrowside, Lytham Road and the railway. One hole on this
course was named "The Alps" which had "a bunker resembling a towering
sand cliff".
The rapid development of South Shore as a residential area resulted in
the club moving across the district boundary into St.Annes. Their
18-hole course was laid out at Squires Gate, on land abutting the Old
Links Course, and now occupied by the airport.

In 1909, Blackpool Corporation held a pioneering "Aviation Week" at
Squires Gate, on land which included the golf links.
The club went out of existence after the R.A.F. requisitioned the land
in 1939. The clubhouse was taken down and re-modelled and re-erected at
Green Drive Golf Club.
