"New" Clubhouse 1943

GOLF HOUSE MOVED

IN the peace and seclusion of Lytham's borders, in front of the tall screen of the trees in the famous Green Drive, the club-house of the Blackpool Golf Club, which disappeared off the face of the land when the Squires Gate course was requisitioned early in the war, has been rebuilt, writes “Dormy."

It is to-day the headquarters of Lytham Green Drive Club, where the former Blackpool professional, J. A. Steer, is in service.

The transfer of the building four miles down the coast is complete but the materials have been reassembled in an entirely new design with the help of some new brickwork.

This reconstructed club-house is to serve the Green Drive for the duration only. Plans are already prepared for another storey on the present building for a club-house which will be among the biggest in the Fylde.

Remarkable progress has been achieved at Green Drive. During the four years of war, while the memberships of other Fylde clubs have been decreasing the roll at Green Drive has soared to the record figure of 300, and it has been necessary to reintroduce an entrance fee.
